Kuti, Saidi, Elbasoumy Emerge Champions at ITTF Africa Youth Cup

The 2026 International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Africa Youth Cup has ended in Accra, with Nigeria’s Matthew Kuti winning his first continental title in the boys’ U-19 singles event.
This was contained in a statement by Morakinyo Abodunrin, Media Officer of the ITTF, issued on Thursday in Lagos.
According to the federation, Kuti defeated fellow Nigerian, Sultan Agunbiade 4-1 in the final played at the Borteyman Sports Complex to claim the title.
It noted that the victory came after Kuti avenged his quarterfinal defeat at the Africa Youth Championships by beating Egypt’s Abdelmalk Elsayed 4-2 in the semifinal.
Speaking further it added that Agunbiade also impressed on his way to the final, after defeating Tunisia’s top seed and defending champion, Wassim Essid, 4-1.
It noted that the Nigerian raced to a 3-0 lead, before Essid won one game, but that Agunbiade held on to complete the victory and reach the final.
In the girls’ U-19 singles, the federation said Egypt’s Habiba Elbasoumy defeated Algeria’s Jade Morice 4-1 to win the title.
It added that the semifinal stage had already guaranteed a new champion after top seed Yara Elbadawy of Egypt was eliminated in the quarterfinals, leaving Elbasoumy and Morice to contest the final.
According to the federation, in the girls’ U-15 singles, Tunisia’s Ela Saidi claimed the title after defeating Uganda’s Patience Anyango 3-0 in the final.
It explained that Saidi had earlier lost 3-2 to Anyango at the Africa Youth Championships, but returned strongly at the Youth Cup to win convincingly and became the new African U-15 champion.
In the boys’ U-15 singles, it said Egypt’s Asser Sameh defeated Uganda’s Joseph Sebatindira 3-0 in the final, to win the title.
The federation said Sameh, popularly known as “Mr Perfect”, completed the tournament without losing a match in both the singles and team events.
“He was the only player to remain unbeaten throughout all the events in Accra,” it said.
