Nigeria’s Flying Eagles opened their account in the ongoing WAFU B U20 Championship in a dominat fashion with a 4-2 win over the Black Satelites of Ghana on Monday.
The defending champions were very dominant in the first half of the encounter played at the Charles Konam Banny Stadium in Yamoussoukro.
The Nigerian intermediate team made its intention known early in the match, scoring three goals as early as the 6th minute from Olayemi Ayinla, followed by Oraro Lucky in the 30th minute and Muiz Adeleke registering his goal in the 40th minute of the match.
Black Satelites pulled one back as both teams went into the break, with Nigeria on 3- 1 advantage.
Second half was a bit scary for the Flying Eagles as their opponents piled more pressure looking to reduce the scoreline, and reduced the tally 3-2.
It became a very dicey affair, with an end to end attacking football from both teams, but it was the Nigerian youngsters that won the bragging rights when Adeleke converted from the penalty spot in the 90th minute to end scores at 4-2 in favour of the Flying Eagles.
