Swiss Based soccer tactician Antony Adeyemi Adedeji, has advised the Super Falcons to focus more on securing the World Cup ticket ahead of winning the WAFCON title.
Adedeji said this while featuring on the programme Sport Gallery, aired on Crowther 88.5 FM Oyo.
He warned that if the team’s focus is to retain the title they won two years ago, they may lose both the World Cup ticket and the WAFCON title.
“If care is not taken, the team will not get the World Cup ticket, if attention is to retain the African title. But if they get to the semi-final, and the World Cup ticket is secured, then they can think of winning the WAFCON title,” the experienced coach stated.
According to him, as we all know there are additional countries in the competition and they are not coming to joke as they all know what is at stake, so, it will be more competitive. In the last edition, it took luck for Super Falcons to come from two goals down to defeat host Morocco, so if we believe such can happen in this year’s WAFCON, we are only deceiving ourselves because Morocco, South Africa, Ghana, Zambia and others are here to challenge for the ticket and title. So, the Super Falcons must be well prepared.
The Women African Cup of Nation (WAFCON) will kick-off on July 16, with the Super Falcons opening their title defense against debutant Malawi on July 28.
