C’Wealth Games: Kida Urges Team Nigeria to Reciprocate Tinubu’s Support for Sports With Medals

President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, Engr. Musa Kida has urged Team Nigeria to repay the Federal Government’s unwavering support by delivering outstanding performances at the Commonwealth Games, which begin on 23rd of July, 2026 in Glasgow, Scotland.
Kida said President Bola Tinubu’s administration has continued to demonstrate commitment to the development of sports through improved support for athletes and sporting federations.
He therefore called on members of Team Nigeria to remain focused, disciplined, and determined to make the country proud on the international stage.
According to the Board Chairman NNPCL, Nigeria will compete in 10 sporting events, including athletics, boxing, judo, swimming, weightlifting, basketball, wheelchair basketball, and other disciplines.
He expressed confidence that the country’s athletes possess the talent and determination needed to challenge for medals despite the high level of competition expected at the Games.
He encouraged the athletes to see the tournament as an opportunity to showcase the resilience, hard work, and fighting spirit for which Nigerians are known.
The NBBF President noted that every medal won would not only bring honour to the nation but also inspire millions of young Nigerians who dream of representing the country in sports.
Kida also commended the leadership of the National Sports Commission for providing an enabling environment that has helped the teams prepare effectively for the competition.
He described Mallam Shehu Dikko and Hon. Bukola Olapade commitment to the growth of sports as worthy of commendation.
As Team Nigeria prepares to march into the Games, expectations remain high among sports enthusiasts back home.
