Nigeria’s sprint king Favour Ashe gave hint of what to expect at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, when he produced an impressive performance by winning the men’s 100 metres at the BFTTA Open held at the Lee Valley Athletics Centre in London.
Ashe stormed to victory in a time of 10.05 seconds, aided by a +3.8m/s tailwind, to record the fastest performance across all 26 heats of the men’s 100m event.
The outstanding run underlined Ashe’s fine form as he comfortably outpaced the rest of the field in the competition, although the time will not count as a legal personal best due to the wind reading exceeding the allowable limit of +2.0m/s.
Despite the wind-assisted mark, Ashe’s dominant display further reinforces his readiness for upcoming international competitions as he continues his preparations for the remainder of the 2026 athletics season.
