Car Dealer Docked for Allegedly Defrauding Buyer of N25.9m

The Police on Tuesday, dragged a 50-year-old car dealer before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, over alleged N25.9 million fraud.
The defendant, Hassan Kazeem, is standing trial on a two-count charge of fraud and stealing.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, PC Olapeju Durodola told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 12, 2021, at Olodo area in Ibadan.
He alleged that the defendant obtained the sum of N25.9 million from a complainant, one Mr Hammed Sodiq, with a pretence of selling to him a Toyota Highlander 2016 Model.
The prosecutor alleged that the representation was false, as the defendant failed to deliver the vehicle to the buyer after payment.
She alleged that the defendant stole the money from the complainant and fraudulently converted it to his own use.
The offences contravene the provisions of sections 390 (9) and 419 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Olabisi Ogunkanmi admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N7.5 million , with two sureties in like sum.
She ordered that one of the sureties must be building property owner within jurisdiction with land agreement and building plan, while the second surety must be blood relative to the defendant.
The court adjourned the matter until Oct. 28, for hearing.
