Veteran Nollywood actress **Clarion Chukwura** has penned an open letter to President **Bola Ahmed Tinubu**, urging his administration to take more immediate steps to tackle Nigeria’s worsening insecurity while plans for state policing are being implemented.

In the letter shared on her social media page, Chukwura commended the President for his role in Nigeria’s democratic struggle and welcomed ongoing efforts to facilitate the establishment of state police.

“I applaud the fact that you once became a fugitive on behalf of democracy in Nigeria and your recent move to facilitate the creation of State Police to combat insecurity in our country,” she wrote.

However, the actress noted that the full implementation of state policing could take years, particularly in reaching rural communities where kidnappings and violent attacks have become increasingly frequent.

According to her, the country needs urgent interim measures to protect vulnerable communities.

She appealed to President Tinubu to allocate part of the National Security Emergency Intervention Fund to support community based vigilante groups, proposing that they be equipped and empowered to defend their local communities while broader security reforms are underway.

“Please direct the use of a part of the billions of the National Security Emergency Intervention Fund to support community self defense through vigilantes who are given the capacity to bear arms and protect their communities,” she wrote.

Chukwura also attributed rising criminality partly to widespread poverty and unemployment, arguing that insecurity cannot be separated from the country’s economic challenges.

She further called for increased protection for schools, urging the Federal Government to support the employment of armed security personnel to safeguard pupils, students, teachers, and educational facilities from attacks.

Concluding her message, the actress said that taking swift action to strengthen community security would demonstrate compassion and reassure Nigerians that their safety remains a priority.
