Nigerian Afrobeats star Davido has called on popular Hausa musician Dauda Rarara to speak out against the country’s worsening insecurity, following criticism of his recent advocacy for abducted schoolchildren in Oyo State.
The controversy began after Davido appeared at the FIFA World Cup 2026 Countdown Concert in Los Angeles wearing a customised jacket bearing the message **“Bring Them Home”** alongside the names of more than 40 schoolchildren and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State on May 15.
The singer’s gesture attracted widespread attention both within and outside Nigeria, with many viewing it as a call for urgent action to secure the victims’ release.
However, in a video shared on his verified Facebook page, Dauda Rarara criticized Davido’s action, describing it as “barbaric” and arguing that it could damage Nigeria’s image on the international stage.
Rarara also alleged that the issue was being politicised, suggesting that such displays could be interpreted through a political lens rather than as humanitarian advocacy.
Reacting to the criticism, Davido reportedly urged the singer to focus on speaking out against insecurity and the plight of victims rather than criticizing efforts aimed at drawing attention to the crisis.
The exchange has since sparked debate online, with Nigerians divided over whether public figures should spotlight security challenges on global platforms or avoid actions that some believe could negatively affect the country’s reputation.
The discussion comes amid growing concern over kidnapping and violent crime in several parts of the country, with calls mounting for stronger measures to protect lives and secure the release of victims.
