A privately operated aircraft caused panic and curiosity among residents in Delta State after reportedly landing on a roadway in Ogwashi-Uku following a failed approach to Asaba International Airport.

The aircraft, identified as a Bombardier Challenger 601 business jet, reportedly touched down on a road still under construction on Wednesday, June 10, 2026.

According to the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, the aircraft carried out a missed approach to Asaba International Airport at about 7:43 a.m. local time before landing on the roadway in the Ogwashi-Uku area near Asaba.

The aviation regulator disclosed that preliminary investigations revealed the aircraft subsequently departed the location and flew back to Lagos without obtaining the necessary regulatory clearance.

Following its arrival in Lagos, the NCAA said the aircraft was immediately grounded pending the outcome of an ongoing investigation.
The flight crew have also been placed under regulatory review as authorities seek to determine the circumstances surrounding the unusual landing and subsequent departure.

In addition, the NCAA announced the suspension of the operator’s Permit for Non-Commercial Flight pending the conclusion of its inquiries.
The incident has raised fresh concerns within the aviation sector, with many awaiting the regulator’s final report on what led to the aircraft landing on a public roadway instead of a designated runway.
