Social media personality and Ex- wife of Popular Nollywood Actor, Yul Edochie, May Edochie, has called on the Nigerian government to intensify efforts in tackling kidnapping, banditry, and other security challenges facing the country.

In a statement shared on social media, Edochie said she does not believe the Nigerian government is incapable of addressing the growing insecurity, noting that the authorities are aware of the problem and possess the capacity to deal with it effectively.

She questioned why innocent citizens continue to suffer the consequences of insecurity, as many families live in fear, communities remain traumatized, and loved ones are frequently abducted. According to her, the situation has also discouraged many Nigerians in the diaspora from returning home.

Edochie stressed that Nigerians deserve more than promises and assurances, adding that citizens need tangible results that will restore safety, confidence, and hope.

Drawing comparisons with Nigeria’s response to the Ebola outbreak and the COVID-19 pandemic, she noted that the country had previously demonstrated its ability to effectively tackle major national crises when there was urgency, coordination, and commitment.

She therefore urged the government to apply the same level of determination, strategic planning, and coordinated action to the fight against kidnapping, banditry, and insecurity across the nation.

“The safety of lives and property is a fundamental responsibility of government,” she said, adding that Nigerians deserve to live, work, travel, and raise their families without the constant threat of violence or abduction.
