The husband of a kidnapped Oyo State school principal has made an emotional appeal to Governor Seyi Makinde, urging him not to relent in efforts to secure the release of his wife and other victims abducted during a recent attack on schools and communities in Oriire Local Government Area.

Mrs. Rachael Alamu, the principal of Community High School, Esiele, was among several teachers, pupils and residents reportedly abducted when armed men stormed communities in the Esiele and Yawota axis on Friday.

The attack, which has sent shockwaves across Oyo State, reportedly targeted LA Primary School and Community Grammar School in Ahoro Esiele. Reports indicate that gunmen opened fire on the schools, killing at least one teacher, while another was allegedly beheaded in captivity. Several teachers and pupils were also taken away by the attackers.

During a meeting with Governor Makinde, Mrs. Alamu’s husband struggled to hold back tears as he thanked the state government for its efforts while pleading for intensified action.

“I’m the husband of the principal of Community High School, Esiele, who was kidnapped by gunmen. Our governor, we thank you. No way we can thank you that will be enough because we know your efforts since the incident occurred,” he said.

Fighting back emotions, he continued: “Please, sir, do not get tired. My wife is the one they have been using to make the videos circulating online. It is very disheartening and depressing.”

The governor was seen comforting the distraught husband and reportedly assured him that efforts were ongoing to secure the safe return of all victims.

The appeal comes amid growing concern over disturbing videos released from captivity, showing some of the abducted teachers begging for government intervention.

In one of the videos, Mrs. Alamu pleaded with authorities to negotiate with the kidnappers to save their lives.

“Please, I am here again to beg the government to help us and dialogue with these people,” she said.

According to her, a previous rescue attempt allegedly worsened conditions for the captives, leaving them fearful for their safety.

“We want you to call them and dialogue with them so that our lives will be saved,” she added.

Another teacher, Mary Akanbi, also appealed directly to Governor Makinde, urging the government to do everything possible to secure their freedom.

The incident has reignited concerns over insecurity in schools and rural communities, with many Nigerians calling for urgent measures to protect students, teachers and residents from recurring attacks and abductions.
