The Delta State chapter of thevAll Progressives Congress (APC) has said that Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege’s resignation from the party is a welcome development and not a threat to the party.
The party’s reaction was conveyed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Party’s State Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo on Thursday in Asaba.
Recall that the former Deputy Senate President of the ninth National Assembly in a letter to his ward chairman in Orogun Ward 2, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta, on Wednesday, resigned his membership of the APC.
His resignation trailed his loss at the party’s senatorial primary elections in Delta central senatorial district.
He claimed that the party no longer served the interest of the people of Delta and that he could no longer sit like a duck watching the political arena but play active role to serve the people of his constituency, the Delta central senatorial district.
The party in its reaction, said the resignation of Omo-Agege from the party would not affect its strength, unity, or political fortunes in the state.
It said the APC in Delta remained “strong, united, and irrevocably aligned” with the leadership and political direction of Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori.
According to the party, it received news of Omo-Agege’s resignation with “unbothered equanimity,” while wishing him well in his future political pursuits.
It maintained that the party had witnessed unprecedented growth, renewed political relevance, and wider grassroots acceptance since Oborevwori aligned with the ruling party.
It also noted that APC faithful across wards, local government areas, and senatorial districts have embraced what it described as a new vision of inclusion, stability, and purposeful leadership under the governor’s influence.
It further alleged that Omo-Agege had contributed little to strengthen party structures or foster unity since the governor joined the APC, insisting that his departure would not weaken the party’s prospects in Delta.
“His exit does not diminish the strength, stability, or prospects of our great party,” it said.
It dismissed as false and misleading, the saying that the fortunes of the party in Delta were tied to any individual political figure.
According to the party, Delta APC has evolved beyond personality-driven politics into a formidable institution founded on collective leadership, broad participation, and commitment to the progress of the people of Deltan.
It claimed that developments leading to Omo-Agege’s exit had long indicated a deliberate political separation, citing the movement of some of his close associates, including Ejaife Odebala, Chief Ominimini Obiuwevbi, and Collins Egbetamah, to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) before the party’s primaries.
It further alleged that the former senator’s participation in the senatorial primary was part of a calculated political strategy aimed at facilitating his eventual exit from the party after failing to secure the ticket.
The APC also accused Omo-Agege of distancing himself from crucial party activities after the primaries, including allegedly failing to support President Bola Tinubu’s electoral victory efforts.
“Let no one be deceived: the exit of one individual, regardless of past titles or political history, does nothing to diminish the strength, stability, or electoral prospects of Delta APC,” it said.
The party reaffirmed its loyalty to President Tinubu and Oborevwori, describing both leaders as figures, whose leadership had inspired confidence and repositioned the APC as a dominant political force nationally and within Delta.
It siad the state APC remained committed to consolidating its gains and building a stronger political structure for the benefit of the people of Delta.
