The National Sports Commission (NSC), has officially inaugurated the pioneer board of the Nigeria Netball Federation, marking a major step toward the revival and development of netball in the country.
The inauguration ceremony, held in Abuja on Tuesday, brought together key stakeholders in the sports sector, with officials emphasizing the importance of structured governance in unlocking the sport’s potential. The leadership of the Commission charged members of the newly constituted board to deliver on their mandate by prioritizing grassroots development while positioning Nigeria as a competitive force on the global stage.
Chairman of the Commission, Shehu Dikko, described the moment as historic, noting that netball has now been formally institutionalised after nearly five decades of neglect. He stressed that the establishment of a governing body is critical to ensuring proper organization, talent identification, and international participation.
