Founder of Family Worship Centre, Sarah Omakwu, has drawn national attention following a heartfelt appeal during her Sunday service on 3 May 2026.

In an emotional moment before her congregation, she directed a public plea to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, urging him to preserve Jabi Lake.

Reflecting on her 33-year journey in Abuja, Pastor Omakwu acknowledged the rapid development and transformation of the city over the decades. However, she expressed concern over the increasing commercialization of public spaces.

Going on her knees during the service, she made a passionate appeal:
“I know I cannot fight the minister, but I beg you… as a mother, do not sell that land. Let it remain for everyone.”

She described Jabi Lake as more than just land, but a shared space where small scale traders earn a living and residents find relaxation.

Despite her concerns, she balanced her message with appreciation, thanking the minister for ongoing infrastructural improvements, particularly road construction that has eased movement across the city.

Her plea has since sparked conversations online, with many Nigerians weighing in on the balance between urban development and the preservation of public spaces.
