NAPTIP Opens Probe Into Resurfaced Simi Tweets, Daycare Allegations as Singer Doubles Down

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has announced that it will investigate issues linked to resurfaced tweets by 37-year-old Nigerian singer, Simi, as well as allegations concerning a daycare reportedly connected to her family.

The development follows renewed public scrutiny over a series of tweets posted between 2012 and 2014 from an account attributed to the singer. The tweets, which referenced minors in suggestive language, resurfaced over the weekend and sparked widespread backlash across social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

Among the posts widely circulated were tweets dated November 20, 2014 — “#TB Train a child up the way he should grow…or force him to kiss you” — and February 29, 2012 — “C dis one year old child trying to french-kiss me…hehe d world aff change.” Other posts referenced a four-year-old boy allegedly “trying to put hand inside ma shet,” a 15-year-old who “licked his lips,” and a 16-year-old described as “this good.” In a separate 2012 tweet, she wrote about a four-year-old boy placing his head on her lap and asked, “Shd I giv him a chance? P.S: Hes 4.”

In addition, a more recent tweet surfaced in which she reportedly stated she wished her husband, fellow singer Adekunle Gold, were four years old, adding that this was how she “likes her men.”

As criticism mounted, Simi did not retract the old posts. Instead, she reposted or referenced some of them, including a 2013 tweet that read, “There’s a 90 percent chance that I am 90 percent of my tweets,” a move some critics interpreted as doubling down rather than distancing herself from the remarks.

The controversy escalated after an X user identified as Sidney alleged that he attended a daycare owned by Simi’s mother and claimed he experienced abuse there as a child. In a lengthy post, he stated he was five years old at the time and described fragmented memories of what he termed inappropriate conduct. He did not provide documentary evidence in the post, and the claims remain unverified as of the time of filing this report.

Following the public outcry and the allegations, NAPTIP issued a statement confirming it would look into the matter.

“We take all reports of child sexual abuse or misconduct seriously and are committed to investigating every credible claim. If you have factual information, evidence, or were directly affected, please reach out confidentially via DM or email [email protected],” the agency stated.

NAPTIP did not confirm whether a formal case file has been opened but emphasized its mandate to investigate credible claims related to child protection.

The controversy has continued to trend online, with divided reactions from fans and critics. Some have called for accountability and a thorough investigation, while others have cautioned against drawing conclusions without verified evidence.

There have also been reports from some listeners that certain songs by the singer were temporarily unavailable on Spotify. However, as of press time, there has been no official statement from the streaming platform confirming any removal or action related to the matter.

Simi has not issued a formal press statement addressing the allegations beyond her social media activity. The investigation by NAPTIP, if formally commenced, is expected to determine whether any further action is warranted.
