The Chairman of Dunamis Icon, Sir Constantine Itiakpo Ikpokpo, has commended the initiative of the Niger Delta Games, saying that it has revolutionised sports in Nigeria by creating a veritable platform for young athletes to be discovered from the hinterland.
Ikpokpo, who spoke in an interview, said the regional Games had shown that talents abound in the South South but have not been truly tapped by the states due to policy and programmes geared towards winning and not developing.
The two time Chairman of Isoko North in Delta State, averred that the games had also thrown up Nigeria’s future stars who if properly guided, groomed, primed and exposed would stun the world of sports.
He asserted that the games had revitalized competition in the region and narrowed the seeming gap among the states in the region.
Sir ikpokpo therefore commended the Niger Delta Development Commission and other stakeholders for throwing their weight behind a noble dream that had become the rallying point for people of the region to not only showcase the abundant talents but also strengthen the bond among people’s of the region.
He enjoined them to sustain their support for the games as it remained a veritable tool for the enhancement of sports in the region.
