The Kano State Government has strengthened environmental protection and forest surveillance by distributing motorcycles to frontline forest officers across six zonal forest areas in the state.
The initiative, executed by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, is aimed at enhancing mobility, improving response times, and ensuring effective monitoring of forest reserves.
Dr Dahiru Hashim, Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, said yesterday that the initiative is part of efforts to curb illegal activities and promote sustainable environmental management.
The motorcycles were officially presented to zonal officers representing Danbatta, Kano, Wudil, Gwarzo, Bichi, and Tudun Wada by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mustapha Nuraddeen, on behalf of the commissioner.
Hashim urged the officers to demonstrate professionalism, dedication, and accountability in safeguarding the state’s forest resources.
He emphasised that Gov. Abba Yusuf’s administration is committed to creating a conducive working environment for environmental officers.
He added that effective forest protection is key to combating deforestation, desertification, and the impacts of climate change in the state.
Highlighting the longstanding challenges faced by forestry personnel, the Director of Forestry, Malam Auwalu Muhammad, said officers had operated for over two decades with minimal logistical support.
He said the motorcycles represent a major intervention aimed at improving access to remote forest reserves.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Murtala Sabo-Kachsko thanked the government and the ministry for their timely support.
He assured that the motorcycles would be used responsibly to intensify forest protection across the state.
