President Bola Tinubu has extended heartfelt condolences to Super Eagles Captain, Wilfred Ndidi, on the death of his father, Mr Sunday Ndidi.
This is contained in a statement issued by the Presidential Spokesperson, Mr Bayo Onanuga, yesterday in Abuja.
The Nigerian international footballer, who plays for Turkish Super Lig club Besiktas, lost his father in a road accident in Umunede, near Agbor, Delta State, on Tuesday.
Condoling with the Ndidi family, Tinubu described the death as tragic and deeply saddening.
“I am deeply saddened by the tragic death of Sunday Ndidi.
“I share in the grief of his family, friends and associates, particularly Wilfred Ndidi, who shared a strong bond with his father as a mentor and guide,” he said.
The President said that the late Sunday Ndidi’s modest beginnings and honesty left lasting impressions on those who knew him.
“There is no doubt that Sunday’s modest beginnings and honesty greatly impacted those who looked up to him for inspiration,” he said.
Tinubu prayed that God Almighty would comfort the Ndidi family and grant eternal rest to the soul of the departed.
Also yesterday, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State commiserated Super Eagles Captain, Wilfred Ndidi over the death of his father, Mr Sunday Ndidi.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon yesterday in Asaba, the governor described the passing of the late Sunday as sudden, painful and a great loss, not only to the Ndidi family but also to the Umunede community and the entire Ika Nation.
Oborevwori extended his heartfelt condolences to Wilfred, members of the bereaved family, and the people of Umunede, urging them to take solace in the impactful life and legacies of the deceased.
“The tragic incident has drawn widespread sympathy, including Wilfred Ndidi’s club, and Besiktas, which confirmed the development in a statement released on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle.”
Oborevwori prayed that God grants the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss and the soul of the departed eternal rest.
