Governnor Ahmad Aliyu of Sokoto state has confirmed that Isa local government authorities were responsible for transporting people of Tidibale and surrounding communities to safer areas for the fear of bandits’ attacks.
Aliyu disclosed this to the newsmen at the end of 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day (AFCRD) on Thursday in Sokoto.
He confirmed that people contained in the recent viral video clips were the residents of the affected communities,adding, “they were however were being evacuated temporarily by the council authorities.”
The Governor debunked that the people were migrating based on the threats made by a bandits’ kingpin, describing the circulated information on the social media as efforts to discredit government’s efforts.
” It was a rumor that bandits are chasing the residents out of their settlements, we assure that at present, the residents had safely returned to Tidibale village and other respective settlements.
”The state government is intensifying efforts along with the military and other security agencies to safeguard people’s lives and properties in the areas,” he said.
On AFCRD, Aliyu reassured that the state government would remain unwaveringly committed to supporting the families of the fallen heroes in recognition of their sacrifices and dedication to their fatherland.
The governor also commended the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division, Sokoto, Maj.-Gen. Ibikunle Ajose, for his outstanding leadership, professionalism, and immense contributions to the fight against banditry and other security challenges in the North-West.
In his remarks, the GOC said military operations had continued in Sokoto State and other areas to eliminate bandits and other criminals jeopardising people’s lives.
Ajose, who also serves as the Commander, Sector 2 Joint Task Force Operation FANSAR YANMA, said additional troops were deployed and urged local to support operatives with timely and relevant information to enhance their activities of safeguarding people lives and properties.
He said ADCRD was enshrined to reflect on the sacrifices, dedication of the fallen heros who selflessly laid down their lives for the peace, unity and security of the country along with those that suffered various ailments.
He explained that it was also celebrate the commitment of the present servicemen as way of encouraging their dedication to defending the sovereignty and peaceful coexistence of the country.
The exercise was also to support the families of late personnel who lost their lives in active service as to reciprocate their sacrifices and commended Sokoto State Government in supporting widows with k event featured parades and the release pigeons, symbolising peace.
