Harriet Welham is hoping to end the season with more silverware after breaking the record for the number of Women’s National Basketball League appearances.
Welham – described by Endeavour Ipswich head coach Nick Drane as “the greatest player in the history of the National League” – has now reached 140 matches in all competitions, having set a new record of 138 last month.
The guard also holds records for the number of points scored (more than 3,000), rebounds (almost 1,000) and assists (over 450).
“It’s crazy to think that I’m able to get that many numbers up, but I’ve been playing for so long now. It’s great for me, great for the club, getting that recognition,” Welham told BBC Radio Suffolk.
Ipswich are currently fifth in a wide-open 12-team Women’s Division One following last weekend’s 75-62 win away to Bristol Flyers, a game in which Welham contributed 24 points, and just four points behind leaders Manchester Mystics, .
“Every team has had some injury issues, including us, so it is all to play for [in the second half of the season], it’s the closest I’ve known it for a long time – no-one’s really going to run away with it,” she added.
“It is exciting. I think we have a great shot again. We’ve just got to put the work in in training and try and win as many as we can.”
