Kwara Customs Area Command Seizes N1.2bn Worth of Smuggle Goods

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Kwara Area Command says it has intercepted contraband items with a duty paid value of N1.2 billion in the last one month.
The acting Area Controller of the Service, Mr Najeem Ogundeyi, disclosed this while addressing newsmen at the command headquarters in Ilorin.
Ogundeyi said the achievement underscored the unwavering commitment of the command zero tolerance for smuggling activities.
He said the command was working in line with customs act 2023 to ensure that activities of smugglers are drastically reduced.
He disclosed that contraband items seized include 389 bales of second hand clothes, 108 sacks of used bags, 6,500 liters of petrol, 450 bags of foreign parboiled rice of 50 kg, three vehicles as well as 160 used tyres.
He emphasised that the command would not allow smugglers and economic saboteurs operate freely in the area.
The custom boss reiterated that anyone caught involved in the act of smuggling would be punished in accordance with the provisions of the law.
He commended the officers and men of the command for their dedication, resilience and selfless service to the nation.
Ogundeyi urged the general public to continue to provide credible and timely information to the command for prompt action.
He assured that the area command would continue to sustain the tempo of enforcement within the confines of the law and respect for human right.
