PDP to APC: Wike Not Our Member, He Works For Ruling Party

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has told the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) that it is merely reaping the consequences of its own actions in Rivers State following the growing political crisis involving the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

The PDP said the APC has no moral ground to complain about Wike’s conduct, having allegedly embraced and benefited from his actions when he was used to undermine the opposition party.

The party’s position was made known on Tuesday in Abuja by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, while reacting to a public exchange between Wike and the APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, over political developments in Rivers State.

Ememobong said Wike is no longer a member of the PDP, stressing that the APC knowingly engaged him for political advantage and must now bear the political fallout of that decision.

“The APC is suffering from a problem of its own making. Wike was expelled from the PDP along with his supporters. The APC chose to engage him, benefit from his actions and celebrate them when they appeared to serve its interests,” Ememobong said.

He added that the ruling party could not now disown Wike simply because the relationship had become inconvenient.

“You cannot benefit from a wrong you willingly created and then turn around to complain. What was once considered an asset has now become a liability, and the APC must manage the situation it created,” he said.

The PDP spokesman rejected attempts to drag the opposition party into the controversy, noting that the same conduct now being criticised by the APC was previously applauded when it favoured the ruling party.

“When this conduct served the APC’s interests, they were jubilating. Their National Secretary did not complain at the time. Now that it no longer suits them, they want to cry foul,” Ememobong said.

He maintained that the PDP had been consistent in condemning anti-party activities, irrespective of who was involved, insisting that political actors must be clear about their affiliations.

“If you align with another party, you should be bold enough to do so openly. Either leave your party and join another or remain independent and state your position clearly,” he added.

Ememobong said whatever political gains arose from Wike’s actions accrued solely to the APC and warned that the ruling party must now deal with the consequences.

“This is what happens when you keep feeding a monster. Eventually, you become the meal. The APC enjoyed the benefits; it must now manage the fallout,” he said.
