Single, Unapologetic And Unbothered: Iyabo Ojo Sparks Another Debate.

Iyabo Ojo has never been one to whisper her truth. If anything, she wears it like a badge, loud, shiny, and unapologetic. So unapologetic, in fact, that she has jokingly crowned herself “President of the Single Mothers Association,” and honestly, at this point, no one is arguing.

During a mini Thanksgiving organised by the 48-year-old Nollywood actress, Iyabo Ojo took the microphone and the moment to speak candidly about single motherhood. With the confidence of a woman who has lived her story publicly and survived it, she described how fulfilling single motherhood can be when children are raised properly.

According to her, being a single mother is not a life sentence to loneliness or struggle, but one that can still attract love, respect, and even marriage proposals. She also praised single mothers for “holding it down”, raising children, building careers, and still showing up with grace. The applause that followed suggested many in the room felt seen… but of course, peace rarely lasts long in the entertainment space.

Iyabo’s comments quickly attracted pushback. Her industry rival, Lizzy Anjorin, delivered a sharp clapback, questioning the message and its timing. Not to be outdone, controversial singer Portable also waded into the conversation, publicly asking why a woman whose daughter had just gotten married would be celebrating single motherhood so loudly. Just like that, what began as a thanksgiving turned into a debate, part empowerment talks, part social media tribunal.

Still, if Iyabo Ojo’s track record is anything to go by, controversy has never scared her into silence. Love her or question her, one thing remains certain: she tells her story on her own terms and she’s not asking for permission.
