The wing of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) backed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has escalated the party’s internal crisis, announcing the dissolution of State Working Committees in 14 states across the federation.
The decision was contained in a communiqué issued after a meeting of the PDP National Working Caretaker Committee faction held in Abuja and read by its acting Publicity Secretary, Haruna Jungun.
According to Jungun, the affected states are Borno, Bauchi, Oyo, Zamfara, Yobe, Ekiti, Bayelsa, Enugu, Ebonyi, Anambra, Delta, Taraba, Kano, and Lagos.
He said the committee also assigned portfolios to its members as part of efforts to strengthen internal administration and coordination of party activities nationwide.
“The National Caretaker Committee further ratified the dissolution of some state executives while confirming caretaker committees in those states,” Jungun stated.
He announced several national appointments, including Prof. Adenike Ogunse as Women Leader, Deji Doherty as Deputy National Secretary, Senator Olaka Ogunwu as Treasurer, Jungun Mohammed as Publicity Secretary, and Dr Ibrahim Bala-Aboki as National Youth Leader.
Jungun further disclosed that a timetable for state congresses had been approved, with exercises scheduled to commence on January 9, 2026, ahead of a proposed national convention.
Dismissing claims that a rival executive led by Taminu Turaki had been recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Jungun insisted that only one legitimate PDP leadership existed.
“There is only one genuine and legitimate PDP, headed by Abdulrahmah Mohammed,” he said, challenging Turaki to produce the code allegedly used to upload his list of executives on INEC’s portal.
Earlier, the acting National Chairman, Abdulrahmah Mohammed, said the meeting was convened to keep the party on what he described as a lawful and stable path.
“We have only one PDP under my leadership, aligned with the party constitution and the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Mohammed declared.
Meanwhile, the PDP Caretaker Committee in Bauchi State, aligned with the Wike-backed group, has ordered party executives loyal to Governor Bala Mohammed to vacate all PDP secretariats across the state within 14 days.
The directive was issued by the Chairman of the Bauchi State Caretaker Committee, Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, during a press conference in Bauchi, where he warned that failure to comply would attract lawful consequences.
Jungudo said the caretaker committee was appointed by the PDP National Working Committee to oversee the affairs of the party in the state and restore order following lingering internal disputes.
He pledged loyalty to the party’s national leadership, stressing the committee’s commitment to unity, discipline, constitutionalism, and the rule of law.
The Bauchi caretaker committee also issued an apology to former Jigawa State Governor and PDP founding member, Sule Lamido, over what it described as the embarrassment he suffered during the party’s aborted national convention.
According to Jungudo, the apology followed the alleged refusal to sell nomination forms to Lamido, an action he blamed on Governor Bala Mohammed, the immediate past Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum.
He further warned that the caretaker committee would operate strictly within the confines of the law, adding that any violence or harm to party members would be held against Governor Bala Mohammed.
Jungudo also dismissed claims by individuals parading themselves as members of the PDP National Working Committee, describing their recent convention in Ibadan as illegitimate and contrary to court judgments and party regulations.
He cited the party’s 103rd National Executive Committee meeting of November 18, 2025, which he said culminated in the expulsion of Governor Bala Mohammed and the dissolution of state party executive committees, urging party members and the public to respect the decision.
Reiterating the earlier directive, Jungudo warned that all persons occupying PDP secretariats illegally in Bauchi State must vacate the premises within 14 days or face lawful consequences, while appealing to party members not to defect, assuring them of fairness and inclusiveness under the caretaker committee.
