Yvonne Jegede Clears the Air on Annie Macaulay

If you ever watched the music video for “African Queen” by 2Face Idibia, that once-in-a-generation hit that has somehow survived changing trends, formats and even relationships, then you will remember them: three stunning women who, at the time, perfectly embodied the idea of the African queen.

Two of those faces were Annie Macaulay, now 2Face’s ex wife and Yvonne Jegede, a Nollywood actress whose screen presence quietly stood the test of time.

For over two decades, many fans assumed the obvious: that the women who shared such an iconic moment must surely share a friendship off camera. After all, Nigerians love a good backstory, especially one involving nostalgia and celebrity proximity.

So when Yvonne recently celebrated her 20th anniversary in Nollywood, an event she hosted with industry colleagues and friends and invited 2Face and his wife, eyebrows were raised. Sharp ones. Why was Annie nowhere in sight?

Naturally, speculation took over. Social media detectives went to work, but during an interview on Naija FM, Yvonne Jegede decided to clear the air, calmly, plainly, and without drama.

According to her, she and Annie were never friends. In fact, in the 21 years since the “African Queen” video was shot, she has probably seen Annie less than three times. No fallout. No secret beef. Just… no relationship.

Yvonne explained that while she didn’t have a friendship with Annie, she did have a professional relationship with 2Face, whose music and global success helped push her into the limelight at the time. And that, she said, was the connection — simple, honest, and refreshingly unembellished.

Oh. So it was never a Nollywood friendship story after all. Just good casting, good music, and good assumptions carried for 21 years.
