NAF Rockets Beat Wikki Spikers Queens in Volleyball Premier League Opener

The NAF Rockets women’s volleyball team delivered a commanding performance yesterday, defeating Wikki Spikers Queens 3–0 in their opening match of the final phase of the 2025 Comptroller General of Customs Volleyball Premier League in Abuja.
The match was played at the indoor sports hall of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium.
The NAF Rockets controlled the encounter from the first serve, taking the sets 3-0 (25–11, 25–16, 25–11 ) to seal an emphatic straight-sets victory.
The opening set highlighted NAF Rockets superiority as they raced through with progressive point leads of 16–8, 21–10, 23–10, 24–11 before closing it out at 25–11.
The second and third sets followed a similar pattern, with the Rockets maintaining pressure and rhythm to comfortably wrap up the match.
The Most Valuable Player (MVP) award went to Dorcas Isaac of NAF Rockets, who displayed exceptional quality throughout the encounter.
Speaking after the match NAF Rockets head coach Siyeyetoma Briggs credited the team’s preparation and institutional support for their strong start to the league.
“I want to thank the Chief of Staff for giving us the opportunity to train as a team and motivating us to be in this Premier League.
“The team was gathered, we had a good performance during our training sessions, and it is showing out there.
“We are taking every game one after the other,” he said.
Briggs expressed optimism about the squad’s prospects this season, particularly with the growth of the young players.
“The season is bright for the young players. Their techniques and playing skills are improving by the day,” he said.
He also called for increased sponsorship to further strengthen the league and support the development of volleyball in Nigeria.
NAF Rockets, who finished fifth last season, are hoping for a stronger outing in this year’s campaign.
NAF Rockets will face Kada Emeralds on Thursday, while Wikki Spikers Queens will face Benue Queens on Thursday.
In others matches, CNS dominated Anambra Queens with a 3-0 win (25-12, 25-12, 25-15), while COAS Spikers swept Olalomi Royals Spikers 3-0 (25-13, 25-10, 25-16) and NSCDC got a bye.
In the men’s, CNS also beat Kada Stars 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-13), while Offa volleyball club (OVC ) suffered loss to NCS 3-0 (25-27, 15-25, 15-25).
The 2025 Comptroller General of Customs Volleyball Premier League final phase opened on Dec.1 and will run till Dec. 13 at Package B of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
