If there’s one thing Nigerians love more than a good comeback story, it’s a familiar script with a surprising sequel. So when Tonto Dikeh announced—yet again—that she had rededicated her life to God, social media erupted with one question: “How many times can one woman be born again?” Apparently, some people have been keeping spiritual scorecards.
On Monday, December 1st, the actress-turned-everything-extra was captured praying intensely in what Christians call “speaking in tongues.” A holy moment, right? Well, trust Nigerians to turn a prayer session into a full-blown debate. While some fans celebrated her heavenly glow-up, others were quick to ask the obvious: “But why is the camera rolling while you’re conversing with the Holy Spirit?”
As if the conversation wasn’t loud enough, social media’s resident commentator, Martins Otse, a.k.a VeryDarkMan, joined the party. Of course, he had every reason to notice, he had a court date with Tonto the very next day. His reaction? A thinly veiled mockery, because, as he implied, “born-again Christians don’t drag people to court; they forgive.” A fair point, but this is Tonto we’re talking about.
Let’s not forget that this isn’t her first spiritual rebirth. Years ago, she was even preaching on the pulpit, a season many of us still remember. Yet, somehow, preaching didn’t stop her from public spats, social media wars, and a few colourful choices.
Having seen the mockery and side comments, Tonto hopped on her Instagram story with one message: she will not deny her God for anyone, and honestly? That’s the Tonto energy we signed up for: dramatic, fierce, and defiantly evolving.
Whether this is a new chapter or just another episode in the never-ending Tonto Chronicles, one thing is sure: we’re watching, rooting, and side-eyeing, just a little.
