Dangote Group has announced a major strategic partnership with Honeywell International Inc. to power the next phase of expansion at the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, a move that will push the facility’s processing capacity to 1.4 million barrels per day by 2028. The agreement marks one of the most ambitious industrial upgrades in Nigeria’s history and reinforces Dangote’s drive to build the world’s largest integrated refining complex.
Under the new deal, Honeywell will deliver specialised catalysts, advanced equipment and proprietary process technologies that will enable the refinery to handle a wider range of crude grades while boosting product quality and operational reliability. Honeywell, one of the world’s leading Fortune 100 technology and industrial giants, has been a key technical ally to Dangote since 2017 through its UOP division, supplying high-performance refining systems, catalyst regeneration units, heat-exchanger technologies and column trays integral to the refinery’s operations.
The partnership also extends to petrochemicals. Dangote is scaling its polypropylene output to 2.4 million metric tons annually using Honeywell’s Oleflex technology, strengthening Nigeria’s competitiveness in a market critical to packaging, automotive components and industrial manufacturing.
Beyond refining and petrochemicals, Dangote Group is pushing forward with a sweeping expansion of its fertiliser operations. The company plans to ramp up urea production from 3 million to 9 million metric tons per year. The existing complex consists of two 1.5-million-metric-ton trains; the new phase will add four additional trains to meet surging demand across Africa and international markets.
Dangote said the partnership underscores its long-term commitment to world-class industrial capacity, enhanced energy security for Nigeria, and sustained economic growth driven by innovation and global collaboration.
