The President General (PG) Anambra State Association of Town Unions, (ASATU) Youth Wing, Mr Ken Obi, has called on youths in the state to engage and champion a transformation campaign in Anambra.
Obi made the call in an interview with NAN in Awka yesterday.
He said that election is not a warring activity and urged the youths to ensure that they performed their civic responsibility at the governorship election in the state come Nov.8.
He said that no state would progress effectively in governance without input from the youths.
Obi appealed to the eligible youths to pick up their voter cards to vote out or vote in any candidate with no transformative agenda.
According to him, election time is not a time to play football but a time to take ownership of the state.
The PG also called on community youth leaders across the 21 local government areas (LGA) of the state, the 179 communities with 326 political wards of 5,718 polling units in Anambra to be politically responsible.
“Vote, watch and monitor the announcement of results of votes cast in your various polling units up to the collation centres in the LGAs to match the polling units results announced,” he said.
Obi urged the electoral umpire to be transparent in the discharge of their duties in order to regain the confidence of Nigerians and the world in an unbiased electoral exercise.
He also called on the media, civil society organisations and the local and foreign observers, not to heat up the polity but report factually whatever they see on ground.
He enjoined the security agencies to exhibit professionalism during the election.
The youth leader described Anambra as people of integrity, peace and the Light of the Nation and prayed that the election exercise reflects the state image and place Anambra in a global map.
“Election time is a time to demonstrate confidence in governance; a time to hold political leaders accountable; and a time to request for more prudent management of public funds from the political leaders,” Obi said.
