A factional Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Cross River, Mr Venatius Ikem has said that his faction is yet to decide on the issue of defecting to another party.
Ikem made the remark in an interview with NAN while reacting to the report that he and his group would soon leave the party.
A party source, who pleaded anonymity, had earlier said that Ikem would soon lead other prominent members of the party to defection.
He said the decision had been taken in a recent meeting held in Abuja to follow Sen. Jarigbe Agom-Jarigbe, who recently defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The source, who is a chieftain of the party in Cross River, said that the meeting had in attendance some members of the party SWC, Senator Agom-Jarigbe, and other stakeholders from the state.
Others in attendance included Mr Godwin Offiono, member representing Ogoja/Yala federal constituency in the House of Representatives, and Chief Austin Edibe; former Secretary to the State Government.
The source said that in the meeting, Ikem commended Agom-Jarigbe for the bold step taken so far and promised to get back to the SWC for further consultations on the next line of action.
Speaking to NAN, Ikem said that they were in trying times, adding, ‘’all that I can say is that we are still consulting with our supporters on the way forward.
“We will decide at the end of the day what exactly to do in order not to lose the trust and confidence of our people, most of whom are still very passionate about the PDP,” he stated.
The Cross River chapter of the PDP has been fragmented following the crisis generated by the conduct of the state and South South zonal congresses.
