President Bola Tinubu has announced major changes in the leadership of Nigeria’s Armed Forces, appointing new Service Chiefs in a sweeping move aimed at strengthening the country’s national security architecture.

A statement issued Friday afternoon by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, said General Olufemi Oluyede replaces General Christopher Musa as the new Chief of Defence Staff.

Major-General W. Shaibu has been named the new Chief of Army Staff, while Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke takes over as Chief of Air Staff. The new Chief of Naval Staff is Rear Admiral I. Abbas.

The Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye, retains his position.

President Tinubu expressed deep appreciation to the outgoing Service Chiefs for their “patriotic service and dedicated leadership,” and charged the new appointees to “justify the confidence reposed in them” by upholding professionalism, vigilance, and unity within the Armed Forces.

According to the statement, all appointments take immediate effect.
