NGO Donates Hygiene Kits, Others To Boost School Attendance in Kaduna LGA

Children in Samaru and other communities of Sabon Gari Local Government Area, Kaduna State, have received hygiene kits and other learning stuff from Save the Children International (SCI).
The gesture was to promote menstrual hygiene management and reducing absenteeism among schoolgirls under the SCI’s Reaching out of School Children Project.
Social Mobilisation Officer, Save the Children International (SCI), Sabon Gari Local Government Education Authority, Malam Armaya’u Ahmed, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Zaria yesterday.
According to him, each beneficiary received note books, school bags and other learning materials while adolescent girls received hygiene kits, in addition to the learning materials across the 12 learning centers in Sabon Gari LGA.
He explained that each hygiene kit contained packets of disposable sanitary pads, usable sanitary pads, pants, rope, 5-liters plastic bucket, torch light and soaps.
Ahmed said one of the centres, LEA Primary, Samaru, 150 were trained for the re-enrollment under the first mapping and 500 children were awaiting the gesture.
According to him, the existing students and the teachers in the schools were not left behind under the project, adding th the Head teachers and other teachers received trainings.
He added that additional blocks of class rooms would also be constructed across centres.
Corroborating, Alhaji Abubakar Sani, Ward Head of Unguwan Liman, Samaru, commended SCI for the initiative.
The ward head said he sourced the out-of-school children from within Samaru alone, stressing that many parents had approached him for the enrollment of their children after the first and second mapping.
Sani attributed the high number of out-of-school children in the area to the influx of displaced households occasioned by insecurity in some parts of Kaduna, Zamfara and Katsina States.
He, therefore, appealed to the parents to ensure effective usage of the kits and other learning materials given to them.
The special education and health empowerment initiative supported by the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and global partners, was aimed at improving learning outcomes and supporting the wellbeing of school-aged children.
The initiative aligns with Kaduna State’s broader education reform agenda to reduce the number of out-of-school children and promote inclusive, equitable, and quality education for all.
The project, a strategic collaboration coordinated by IsDB, draws financial and technical backing from the Islamic Solidarity Fund for Development (ISFD), among other partners.
Under the initiative, new schools are being constructed, while existing ones are renovated to create a more conducive learning environment.
Implementation relating to community learning and welfare is being spearheaded by Save the Children International, which brings technical expertise in education, community mobilization,and child protection.
