The Senate Committee on the North Central Development Commission (NCDC) has approved a N140 billion budget proposal for the commission, with a major focus on capital projects.
The approval was granted yesterday during the commission’s budget defence session at the National Assembly in Abuja.
Speaking with journalists after the exercise, the Chairman of the Committee, Senator Titus Zam (APC–Benue North West), disclosed that N100 billion was allocated for capital projects, while N40 billion was set aside for recurrent expenditure.
Earlier, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the commission, Tsenyil Cyril Yiltsen, outlined key priorities, including establishing offices across the six states of the North Central region and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as well as recruiting 200 staff—a process already before the Head of Service.
Committee members advised the commission to collaborate with the governors of the six states in the zone and the FCT Minister for possible office space donations to reduce costs.
The lawmakers further directed the commission to copy the Senate Committee on all correspondence with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), the Head of Service (HOS), and other relevant agencies to ensure proper oversight and follow-up.
