…Nat. Chairman Hails Party’s Stability as Oladejo Knocks Udenta’s “Cheap Talk”

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has moved to counter predictions of its imminent collapse ahead of the 2027 general elections, declaring that the party remains united, formidable, and expanding nationwide.

APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, said yesterday that the ruling party’s cohesion and popularity set it apart from opposition parties plagued by internal crises and court cases. Speaking during a televised interview in Abuja, Yilwatda insisted that the APC is still the preferred political choice of Nigerians.

“Our party is intact, we are still formidable, prepared, and remain the preferred political party for Nigerians,” Yilwatda said.
He added that defections from the APC remain minimal compared to the influx of new members at state and national levels.
“If you look at members of the National Assembly, State Assemblies, and governors trooping back into the APC from other political parties, it tells you we are still the most preferred,” he said.

The National Chairman pointed to the smooth conduct of recent bye-elections and his own unopposed emergence as evidence of APC’s internal democracy and unity. “No governor, National Assembly member, or party leader opposed my election. That is the strength of our party,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State chapter of the APC joined the chorus of confidence, dismissing the prophecy of Prof. Udenta Udenta, founding National Secretary of the Alliance for Democracy, who predicted that the APC would collapse before 2027.

In a strongly worded statement, APC Lagos spokesman, Seye Oladejo, described Udenta’s forecast as “theatrics, cheap and empty talk,” stressing that the ruling party is expanding in “leaps and bounds” rather than weakening.

“Predicting the fall of a party from a studio chair does not make the forecast true,” Oladejo said.
“Prof. Udenta’s interview was loud on rhetoric and short on evidence—a predictable pattern when critics mistake wishful thinking for analysis. Fiction should not be mistaken for reality.”

He warned that reckless political predictions risk damaging otherwise respected voices. “Our dear professor will do well to maintain his lane, or should we now be asking: is Prof. Udenta also among the prophets?” Oladejo quipped.

The Lagos spokesman stressed that APC’s growing membership, organisational reach, and focus on governance define its resilience.
“Panic is not the rumour of collapse. Panic is the party that spends its days on bended knees persuading its few notable members not to abandon a sinking ship,” Oladejo said. “On the flip side, APC’s unity and expansion define stability and defy the prophets of doom.”

He maintained that APC would not be distracted by “melodrama,” but would continue to deliver service, reform institutions, and expand its national base ahead of 2027.

“For the record, APC remains confident, resilient, and focused. Those trafficking in doom-mongering should visit the wards and behold the crowds. APC builds, detractors only prognosticate,” he added.
