The Sokoto State House of Assembly has adopted a motion calling for the establishment of a new primary school in the state metropolis.
The motion was moved by Aminu Gidado (APC–Sokoto South II) and seconded by Mustapha Abdullahi (APC–Sokoto South I) during Tuesday’s plenary .
Presenting the motion, Gidado stressed that education was a fundamental right and a cornerstone of social development.
“The provision of basic education is not only essential for individual growth but also a prerequisite for sustainable educational advancement.
“Therefore, there is need to establish a primary school in Sarkin Adar area of Kofar Atiku Ward, Sokoto South Local Government Area,” he said.
Gidado explained that the absence of a primary school in the area had forced parents to enroll their children in schools located far away.
“This is causing hardship and inconvenience for families striving to secure quality education for their children,” he added.
Gidado further stated that the establishment of a new school in the area would align with Gov. Ahmad Aliyu’s 9-Point Agenda on improving education standard across the state.
According to him, the proposed school would not only serve residents of Sarkin Adar and Kofar Atiku Ward but also contribute to educational development in the entire state.
After deliberation, the Speaker, Alhaji Tukur Bala, put the motion into a voice vote, and it was unanimously adopted by the members.
