The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) has officially conducted the draw for the 2025 NWFL Championship scheduled for Abia, from Sept. 11 to Sept. 21.
The Media Director of the league, Sam Ahmadu, said in a statement yesterday that the championship will take place in Umuahia and Abiriba.
Ahmadu disclosed that four promotion slots were up for grabs, which is an improvement from the previous seasons.
“Unlike last year, when two clubs gained promotion, only the winners of each group in the 2025 edition will qualify automatically for the 2025/26 NWFL Premiership, leaving no margin for error.”
In Group A1, Royal Queens were drawn to face Gallant Queens, Castmog Ladies and First Mahi Babes in Umuahia, while Sunshine Queens, Fortress Ladies, Unification FC and Kwara Ladies will face each other in Group A2, still in Umuahia.
What promises to be another tightly contested pool.
Pelican Stars, Ahudiyannem Queens, Wazbak International and Chosen Generation Angels will do battle, in Abiriba, in Group B1, while Osun Babes, Ghetto Tigers, Moje Queens, Delta Babes and Imo Striker Queens confront each other in Group B2.
It would be recalled that Pelican Stars who hosted the event last season, narrowly missed out on promotion but would be seeking redemption this season.
With promotion at stake and rivalries renewed, the 2025 NWFL Championship promises to showcase the depth of talents and growing competitiveness in Nigeria women’s football.
