The Chairman of Ekiti State Environmental Protection Agency (EKSEPA), Chief Bamitale Oguntoyinbo has urged local government chairmen in the state to embark on developmental projects in their various councils.
Oguntoyinbo gave the advice in a telephone interview with NAN yesterday.
He lamented the dearth of developmental projects in some local government areas in the state.
According to him, in a democratic setting, the role of the local government chairmen is to complement the state government’s efforts at improving on the infrastructural developments at the grassroots.
Oguntoyinbo, who was the Chairman of Oye Local Government from 2004 to 2007, charged council chairmen to ensure the delivering of dividends of democracy to their people.
“Local government chairmen must focus on execution of developmental projects in their communities.
“Council chairmen must equally consider critical social and infrastructural needs of their people.
“They shouldn’t neglect their constitutional duties, and be spending on frivolities such as parties, birthdays and social engagements that have no meaningful impact on the people,” he said.
The EKSEPA boss urged the state government to mandate each council to set up Local Government Advisory Committee to advise chairmen on their projects initiatives and execution.
