A Coalition of Registered Political Party Members (CORPAM) yesterday inaugurated a group, ‘Emi lokan 2027’ to mobilise support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
The coalition equally inaugurated its South-West chapter at the occasion in Abeokuta.
Speaking at the event, the Convener of CORPAM, Mr Olaposi Oginni, said that the inauguration of ‘Emi lokan 2027’ was to rally massive support for President Tinubu in the country ahead of the 2027 poll.
Oginni, who is also the National Secretary of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), said that members and chieftains of some registered political parties decided to come together and float the support group for the president as a result of the positive effects of his Renewed Hope Agenda on the country’s economy.
According to Oginni, the support group is also to re-enact the “audacity of courage exhibited by Tinubu when his ambition to become the president three years ago was hanging in the balance”.
He said that the coalition deliberately chose Abeokuta to inaugurate the support group because it was the location where Tinubu invoked the “political spirit” to make a declaratory statement of ‘Emi lokan’ (it is my turn) on June 2, 2022.
“Permit me to say here unequivocally that the spirit of Oduduwa and Egba ancestors positively entered Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and like a possessed prophet of God Almighty, made the declaratory statement that we all gathered here across political divides to celebrate today.
“We are here once again in Abeokuta to invoke the same ‘Emi lokan’ spirit that gave Asiwaju victory in 2023, to ensure continuity of the great job he is doing.
“And with the collective support of everyone across political divides, it is possible to return Tinubu as Nigeria’s President in 2027 with massive votes.
“Without prejudice, it is clear that God and the spirit of our ancestors are behind the continuous success of President Tinubu.
“Therefore, it is very important for all well-meaning Nigerians to join hands together for his successful eight-year tenure for a greater and better Nigeria of our dreams,” Oginni said.
He, however, declared that any political coalition against the reelection of President Tinubu in 2027 is an effort in futility.
In his remarks, Kola Ogunleye, an aide to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abass, declared that no Nigerian leader in the last two decades, had been able to take bold steps to liberalise the economy like Tinubu has done.
According to him, leadership is not a popularity contest, but the ability to take practical decisions to make positive changes
He added that the President was working assiduously to stop the socioeconomic bleeding in the country.
Ogunleye said that the petroleum subsidy removal and liberalisation of dollars executed by the Tinubu-led administration has helped to stabilise the nation.
In his remarks, Ayo Olubori, the Patron of ‘Emi Lokan 2027’, urged Nigerians not to be swayed by the antics and political shenanigans of politicians in the coalition against the president.
Olubori, a former commissioner in Ogun, said that Tinubu was taking Nigeria “through the tunnel of change.”
He expressed optimism that the country would soon celebrate light at the end of the tunnel.
“President Tinubu is a true democratic leader and he means well for the nation.
“I am optimistic that the discomfort Nigerians are going through because of the rebuilding of the country by the President, will begin to yield beneficial fruits very soon.
“Therefore, we must give massive support to his re-election in 2027, so that he can consolidate the gains of the Renewed Hope Agenda,” he said.
