The Ekiti Government has tasked its contingent to the 9th edition of the National Youth Games in Asaba to put in their best and make the state proud at the event.
The Technical Advisier on Sports Development to Gov. Abiodun Oyebanji, Dr Olusola Osetoba, gave the charge yesterday in Ado-Ekiti, just before the contingent of 103 athletes departed for Asaba, Delta.
The state’s contigent will be participating in 20 events at the Games, which holds from from Aug. 26 to Sept. 7.
The events are Athletics, Badminton,Table tennis, Para Athletics, Judo, Karate, Chess and Ayo Olopon.
Other are: kick boxing, Kung Fu, Para- powerlifting, Weightlifting, Basketball, Tennis, Scrabble, golf, Gymnastics, Boxing and Cricket.
Osetoba lauded the governor for giving the state athletes the opportunity to participate in the youth games.
She urged the athletes to be good ambassadors of the state at the games and acknowledged the tireless preparation of the coaches and athletes ahead of the games.
Osetoba said that the Games serves as a platform for the athletes to showcase their talents, build character, win medals and foster national unity.
She charged the athletes to justify the resources invested in them by the state government to participate in the game.
“I want to urge the state athletes to be good ambassadors of Ekiti at the National Youths Games.
“I believe the state athletes will make the state proud,” she said.
The athletes expressed their gratitude to Gov. Oyebanji for his continuous support in ensuring adequate provisions for young talents to participate in sporting activities.
