FRSC Lectures Jigawa LG Chairmen’s Drivers On Good Driving Habits

The Jigawa Command of the Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC), has trained drivers of the 27 Local Government Council Chairmen in the state on good driving habit.
The training, themed: “Improving Drivers’ Efficiency for Better Driving Culture”, was organised in collaboration with Local Government Service Commission (LGSC) in the state.
The training focused on drivers’ psychology, defensive techniques, first aid, rescue and driving under special conditions.
Speaking at the event yesterday in Dutse, the FRSC Sector Commander in the state, Mr Umar Mas’udu said the gesture was aimed at improving the driving culture of the participants.
Mas’udu said poor driving culture/habit usually leads to traffic congestions, road obstructions, gridlocks and avoidable road crashes/accidents with dire consequences to safety of lives and property.
“Road transportation is the most widely used means of transporting people, goods and services from one place to another.
“However, this transport sector is bedevilled by myriad of challenges such as poor road conditions, poor or inadequate road furniture, poor vehicle standards and maintenance culture,” Mas’udu said.
He explained that corps considers training and retraining of drivers as a must to reduce poor driving culture among drivers.
The sector commander added that as a result, the training gave more emphasis to government official drivers to boost their knowledge on their day-to-day duties.
Mas’udu therefore, urged the participants to pay maximum attention and learn to improve their driving skills, thereby, creating a safe motoring environment while driving their subjects.
He assured that the command would continue to educate drivers through training and workshops in order to enhance good driving culture, with a view to reducing road crashes on all roads across the state.
In his remarks, the LGSC’s Chairman, Mr Uba Bala, lauded the command for organising the training, observing that it would go a long way in ensuring sanity on major roads across the state.
Bala pointed out that in recognition of the key role of transportation in driving national development, both the federal and state governments have taken various steps to bridge the road infrastructure deficit in the country.
“Despite constraints on government finances, the federal government for example, embarked on massive rehabilitation of roads across the country.
“Also, on its part, the Jigawa government has done quite a lot to improve the road condition for safety and better road transportation within the state,” Bala said.
He further explained that the state, being a major link between states in the North-West and North-East, it has constructed numerous roads to connect the two regions.
The state government, he said, had also expanded and rehabilitated many other roads to facilitate safe interstate transportation network.
