The Benue State Taskforce on Illegal Levies and Criminality has arrested a notorious “marching ground” gangster, David Yaikyo, in Makurdi.
Yaikyo, a resident of the Ajaba settlement opposite Makurdi International Market, was apprehended after allegedly demanding N300,000 as a “marching ground fee” from a construction site.
According to reports, Taskforce operatives responded swiftly to a distress call and effected the arrest.
During interrogation, Yaikyo reportedly confessed to the crime before being handed over to the Police Area Command in Makurdi for detention and prosecution.
The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Hyacinth Alia on Youth Organisation and Illegal Levies, Hon. Gbenda Terver, condemned the act and warned youths against engaging in such practices, stressing that offenders would face the full weight of the law.
He also urged residents to support the taskforce by reporting suspicious activities through its hotline, 07063894788.
