A host of European leaders, including those from Germany, France and the UK, will join Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for talks with US President Donald Trump at the White House today.
Zelensky appeared in Brussels yesterday with the president of the European Commission, who implored world leaders to fortify Ukraine with security guarantees. Ukraine’s European allies will also weigh the potential of extending NATO-esque protections to Kyiv.
Today’s talks in the US follow the president’s Alaska summit with Russia’s Vladimir Putin, after which Trump shifted positions and said he is focusing directly on securing a lasting peace deal in Ukraine, rather than starting with a ceasefire. This appeared to align with Putin’s own aims.
