Chief Samuel Ortom has urged Nigerians to ceaselessly pray for President Bola Tinubu, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen. George Akume, Gov. Hyacinth Alia, and other leaders in positions of authority. Ortom, the immediate past governor of Benue, gave admonition yesterday in Makurdi.
The former governor spoke when members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwande and Ushongo local governments paid him a solidarity visit.
He said that the people holding public offices need prayers from the citizens to enable them to succeed.
Ortom further admonished young people against insulting their leaders, saying that the ugly trend was not the best way to go.
The former governor described Akume as a great politician and the leader of Benue politics across party lines.
“Akume made it possible for Sen. Gabriel Suswam to govern the state, followed by me and now Alia.
“I benefitted a lot from his deep wealth of experience, and it helped me a great deal,” he said.
He appreciated both the people of Kwande and Ushongo local governments for their unity despite their political leanings, stating that such was good for the society as it would give peace a chance.
Ortom stated that the PDP under his leadership would not impose candidates but allow the will of the people to prevail.
According to him, the group know their children better, and he will only support the aspiration of someone who will be the people’s choice.
He encouraged them to pursue their aspirations with vigour but surrender them to God, who is omnipotent and omniscient.
“According to John 3.17, man cannot receive anything except it was given to him from God.
“Surrender your aspirations to God because only He can give power to those He wants,” he advised.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation from Kwande Local Government Area, Mr Vincent Uji, appreciated Ortom for recognising and working with Akume as the leader of Benue politics.
He reiterated that Akume was the leader of Benue politics, so all politicians in the state should queue behind and rally round him.
Uji pointed out they are fully aware that Akume and Ortom would assist the group to achieve their ambition.
