Some community leaders in Lagos State have tasked the newly sworn-in Lagos Local Government and Local Council Development (LCDA) Chairmen on rehabilitating roads and drainage to curb incessant flooding in their communities.
Chairman of the Communityl Development Committee (CDC) in Agege Local Government, Mr Moruf Omodele, said in Lagos.
He said bad roads and flooding during downpour remained major challenges in the community.
He noted the former council chairman worked tirelessly to resolve the issues, urging the new administration to continue where the predecessor stopped to restore sanity during rains.
“We appeal to the new chairman, Mr Tunde Azeez, to continue road rehabilitation and drainage works for a flood-free community,” Omodele said.
He added that the local council should assist in desilting drainages to ensure proper water flow during heavy rainfall in Agege community.
Omodele also urged the new chairman to ensure proper security of life and properties within the Agege community.
He requested the council’s new administration maintained the existing committees that promoted orderliness, peace, and unity in Agege established by former chairman Alhaji Ganiyu Egunjobi.
“We have committees on environment, welfare, security, and other sectors to ensure peaceful coexistence and mutual understanding in Agege local government,” he added.
CDC Chairman of Baruwa Community in Ayobo-Ipaja LCDA, Mr Olatunji Salami, urged the new chairman, Mr Lukman Agbaje, to address major road and flooding challenges in the community.
Salami said flooding had been a chronic problem in the community, especially in areas such as Tokubo road, Online Junction, Unique Estate, Orisun Close, and Makinde road.
CDA Chairman of Boys Town in Ipaja community, Mrs Olaide Oladunjoye,
appealed for quick action from the council chairman to solve flooding issues.
“This is a serious problem during rains here in Boys Town community. We appeal to Agbaje to rehabilitate our drainages and roads,” she said.
CDA Chairman of New London community in Ayobo-Ipaja, Mr Gbenga Lawal,
also begged the chairman to help address the lingering flooding during downpour.
“Flooding is a serious problem in Ayobo-Ipaja LCDA. We appeal to the chairman to act quickly against this threat in our community,” he said.
Agbaje, Executive Chairman of Ayobo-Ipaja LCDA, has met with traditional rulers and chiefs to plan infrastructural development.
The delegation included traditional rulers and ‘Baales’ from various quarters to discuss community development in Ayobo-Ipaja LCDA.
Agbaje assured that his administration would ensure the community’s rightful entitlements were met and provide a permanent meeting place for leaders.
He pledged empowerment for community leaders and residents, emphasising the importance of unity and collaboration for inclusive growth in Ayobo-Ipaja LCDA.
The chairman said the council would uphold community values and improve the lives of grassroots people.
Agbaje confirmed a strategic meeting with the Legislative Council focused on executing critical projects within the first 100 days in office.
He said the initiative aimed to plan and execute critical projects efficiently during the initial 100 days of his administration.
Meanwhile, Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Mr Sesan Olowa, recently visited Abule Pan, Shapati, Igbojia, and Desa communities to assess flood challenges firsthand.
Accompanied by the Flood Mitigation Committee, Olowa inspected canal waterways connecting the communities.
The committee found that human activities had obstructed water flow, causing recurrent flooding in the area.
Olowa assured the local government would clear canals to ensure free passage of water and mitigate flooding.
