…Adeyeye, NPA Chairman, Unveils SWAGA 2.0 in Lagos

By Peter Salami

The South West Agenda for Asiwaju (SWAGA), a key political movement backing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has predicted that the President will secure a historic landslide victory in the 2027 general elections, surpassing any electoral triumph recorded in Nigeria’s Fourth Republic.

Speaking at a press conference in Lagos to launch the group’s expanded mobilisation strategy, SWAGA 2.0, National Chairman Senator Dayo Adeyeye dismissed doubts over Tinubu’s re-election prospects, especially in the northern regions, calling such narratives “a myth concocted by political lightweights.”

Adeyeye, who also chairs the Board of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), declared: “We are not afraid. President Tinubu’s victory in 2027 will be the most overwhelming landslide in Nigeria’s recent history, even in the North. The people deceiving Nigerians are those who achieved nothing when they held power in their states. They are playing to the gallery.”

He praised Tinubu’s performance in office so far, saying the President had exceeded expectations. “We thought political pressure would slow him down, but he has confronted every challenge head-on. Tinubu is not thinking like a politician seeking applause; he is thinking like a statesman, focused on Nigeria’s next generation,” Adeyeye stated.

On the recurring speculation that the North would not back Tinubu in 2027, Adeyeye was emphatic: “It’s a lazy argument. The North has never voted as a monolithic bloc. From the First Republic till now, they’ve never gone the same way politically. There are diverse interests across the North’s three geo-political zones.”

He pointed to the enthusiastic reception Tinubu has received from Northern political leaders, especially within the APC, asserting that even governors from opposition parties in the North would rally behind the President’s re-election bid. “I haven’t seen any Northern figure with real electoral value who is opposed to Tinubu running again. The governors are united. The real Northern leaders appreciate what Tinubu is doing,” he said.

Adeyeye brushed aside the emerging coalition of opposition figures under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), claiming they pose no threat. “Who are these people? Do they have electoral value? We saw this myth play out in 1993 when MKO Abiola defeated Bashir Tofa in his own ward in Kano. Tinubu will win the North with a landslide.”

Speaking on SWAGA 2.0, Adeyeye said the group is set to commence aggressive grassroots mobilisation across the South West and other parts of the country in support of Tinubu’s second-term bid.

He outlined key infrastructure projects currently being executed by the Tinubu administration as proof of the President’s commitment to development. These projects include the 9th Mile-Oturkpo-Makurdi Road, Sokoto-Badagry Highway, Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Dual Carriageway, Abuja-Lokoja-Benin Road, Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, and several others.

Adeyeye defended Tinubu’s tough economic reforms, particularly the removal of fuel subsidy and floating of the naira. “Without these bold moves, the economy would have collapsed. The short-term pains are real, but the foundation for a stronger, more resilient economy is being laid.”

He concluded by assuring Nigerians that the Tinubu administration’s achievements in its first two years are only a glimpse of what to expect by 2027. “Under Tinubu’s visionary leadership, Nigeria is on the path to exponential development. By the end of his eight years, Nigerians will look back and say this was a transformational era.”

The event was attended by prominent SWAGA leaders and members from across the South West.
