The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned the recent statement by the All Progressives Congress (APC) declaring that there would be “no vacancy in Aso Rock” in 2027, describing it as an affront to Nigeria’s democracy and a direct insult to the suffering masses.

In a strongly worded statement yesterday, the ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, accused the ruling party of displaying an arrogant sense of entitlement to power, warning that the Nigerian presidency is not a birthright but a position that must be earned through performance and the will of the people.

“The APC Chairman’s reckless assertion that there will be ‘no vacancy in Aso Rock’ is an insult to every Nigerian grappling with hunger, insecurity, joblessness, and economic hardship. Such a statement reeks of desperation and betrays the ruling party’s fear of facing the electorate in 2027,” Abdullahi declared.

He stated that the current administration, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will be subjected to a thorough performance review by Nigerians, who are increasingly disillusioned by rising food prices, rampant insecurity, a collapsing economy, and unfulfilled promises.

“The presidency is not a chieftaincy title to be handed down at will. It is a sacred trust that must be continually renewed through credible elections. To suggest otherwise is to mock the Nigerian people and trivialize their democratic power,” Abdullahi said.

The ADC warned that such dismissive rhetoric from the APC sends a dangerous signal, implying that votes may not count in the 2027 elections, thereby undermining public trust in the democratic process.

“In 2027, the APC will be assessed on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs): youth employment, security of lives and property, poverty reduction, electricity supply, and justice for all. No slogan, no amount of propaganda will alter the reality on the ground,” Abdullahi added.

He stressed that the party’s fixation on 2027 is a deliberate distraction from its glaring governance failures. “The APC government and its media cheerleaders may continue awarding themselves medals, but Nigerians know better. While they clap for themselves, families can’t afford basic meals, communities are being ravaged by bandits, and the Naira continues its freefall,” he said.

The ADC insisted that the APC will have to “reapply for the job of leading Nigeria” in 2027, stating that democracy offers no automatic renewal of tenure. “Declaring ‘no vacancy’ two years before an election is not only presumptuous but spits in the face of every Nigerian who still believes in their vote,” Abdullahi warned.

…Labour Party Denies Plot to Overthrow Tinubu

In a related development, the Labour Party has debunked allegations of plotting a violent overthrow of the Tinubu administration through a purported “One Million Man March” protest.

Senator Nenadi Usman, factional National Chairman of the Labour Party, described the allegations as laughable and a desperate attempt to tarnish the image of respected party leaders, including Mr Peter Obi, Comrade Joe Ajaero, and Senator Victor Umeh.

In a statement signed by her Senior Special Adviser on Media, Ken Asogwa, the Labour Party dismissed a petition allegedly authored by Abayomi Arabambi, who falsely claims to be the party’s spokesman, accusing key figures of orchestrating a coup under the guise of reclaiming the party’s former national secretariat in Abuja.

“The Labour Party has not authorised, sanctioned, or is aware of any protest aimed at reclaiming an office we have since abandoned. To link this alleged protest with a coup plot is not only ludicrous but a dangerous fabrication,” Asogwa stated.

He warned that such baseless accusations are reminiscent of a dark era in Nigeria’s history, when political opponents were falsely implicated in coup plots to stifle dissent.

“The Labour Party remains committed to democratic principles and the rule of law. We urge Nigerians to see through these poorly scripted political dramas designed to heat up the polity through fear and misinformation,” Asogwa added.

Both the ADC and Labour Party called on security agencies to resist being used as tools of political witch-hunts, emphasizing that Nigeria’s democracy must be protected from desperation-driven antics.
