The FCT Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Mr Olusola Odumosu, has decried the prevalence in molestation of minors in Abuja and environs.
Odumosu, frowned at the act when some students and representatives of ECWA Hill Academy management visited his office yesterday in Abuja.
He said the corps is saddled to curb trafficking, gender based violence amongst other criminalities and remained dedicated to the protection of children from sexual molestation, trafficking and organ harvesting.
“It is sad to say that currently we are handling a case of a father molesting his nine years old daughter.
“We are concerned about this insanity perpetrated against minors especially the girl child as we are set through the corps’ Gender Unit and other relevant agencies to make sure that such incidents are not treated with loose gloves,” he said.
The commandant urged students to be wary of people, including parents who touch them inappropriately, as he advised them to be bold enough to speak up when such inappropriate acts happen.
Odumosu also re-assured the students that through the Federal Government’s safe school initiative headed by the corps, the FCT command would continue to ensure the safety of both students and teachers in the territory.
He added that schools’ infrastructure in the FCT would continue to be adequately protected to ensure uninterrupted access to quality education.
Earlier, one of the academy’s staff, Mr Joshua Angbulu, on behalf of the team, expressed satisfaction over the several achievements of the corps.
According to Angbulu, the visit is to give the students first hand information on the functionality of the NSCDC.
The students while taken on a tour round the command, were tutored in the functions of the different departments and units of the corps.
