The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Oyo Sector Command, has inaugurated two mobile courts to prosecute traffic offenders during Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
FRSC’s Oyo State Sector Commander, Mrs. Rosemary Alo, disclosed in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) yesterday in Ibadan.
Alo said that the command had received operational order from its headquarters to commence special operations to ensure a hitch free celebration.
According to her, special attention will be given to highways because of the high number of people expected to travel to be with their loved ones to celebrate Eid-el-kabir.
The sector commander said that the mobile courts constituted would be fully operational in the state on June 7 and June 10 when many travellers would be returning to their base after the celebration.
Alo also disclosed that the command secured the provision of additional ambulances from the Oyo State Ministry of Health, which would serve as backup for FRSC ambulances to cater for emergencies.
She added that the command had stepped up on enforcement and public enlightenment with rallies across motor parts to sensitise drivers and passengers.
Alo said that recent findings indicate that some passengers abet commercial drivers to flout road traffic rules and to evade arrest.
“We have seen the need to enlighten passengers to ensure their own personal safety first because anything that has to do with safety is a personal first before we can talk of corporate responsibility.
“Generally, safety should be seen as personal, corporate and shared responsibilities.
“We are encouraging everyone who will be using the road to obey the rules that guide the use of the highway.
“Avoid over speeding, don’t drink and drive, and avoid the use of cell phones while driving.
“Calm driving will be enforced to curb excessive speeding on the highway while a special monitoring team will be going round to monitor conduct of officers on the road.
“We are also collaborating with the Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and other sister agencies to ensure strict compliance with road safety rules, “she said.
