Marathon Runners Receive payment as NGO Indicts MoC, Apologizes to Head Coach, Deji

After reports of threats by the Athletics and Other Sports Development Initiative to drags those involved in the nonpayment of athletes their winning prizes went viral, one of the organizers, NILAYO Sports Marketing company, whose former Managing Director, Bukola Olopade, is the current DG of National Sports Commission (NSC) have started paying runners for two races respectively.

The Athletics and Other Sports Development Initiative gave the update in a statement made available to newsmen at the weekend.

“The Athletics and Other Sports Development Initiative stakeholders that the 14-day deadline for full payment of athletes for various Marathon races in the country is being met.

“Runners that took part in Premium Trust Bank Marathon in Abuja and LOTUS Marathon, Abeokuta have been paid now. The NGO can report that athletes are happy after a long wait,” the statement read in part.

In a press statement issued and made available to journalists in Abuja yesterday, the NGO stated that, It has become ungodly for the organizers to wait for a third party to intervene before athletes and other participants could receive their hard earned cash prices.
