No fewer than 35 African countries have arrived at the City Under the Rock, Abeokuta, ahead of the 3rd edition of the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) U18 and U20 championships, billed for the MKO Abiola Sports Arena from July 16 to 20.
Algeria and Morocco were the latest contingents to arrive the capital of the Gateway state on Monday night, joining a star-studded roster of nations ready to compete.
With just one day to go, excitement is building across the city as delegations from countries such as South Africa, Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, Ghana, and Egypt, among others, settle in for what promises to be a thrilling display of youth athletics.
The host, Nigeria, which would parade over 96 athletes at the championship, has put all structures in place to deliver a world-class competition, with security, protocol, transportation, and accommodation measures fully activated for the athletes and officials.
Meanwhile, the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) held its congress in Abeokuta, where key deliberations were made on the future of African athletics.
The session was led by CAA President, Hamad Kalkaba Malboum, with discussions focused on reforms, sustainability, and advancing the competitive edge of African athletes globally.
The Congress forms a strategic part of the championship activities, ensuring the event is not just about competition, but also about policy and vision for the future of the sport on the continent.
